2024-2025 winter outlook

**Caroline Weather Center Detailed Winter Outlook for 2024-2025**

The upcoming winter is predicted to be influenced by either a weak La Niña phenomenon or neutral atmospheric conditions. This situation creates an equal likelihood of experiencing both colder and warmer-than-normal temperatures throughout the season. Overall, we expect that the average temperatures will closely align with long-term seasonal norms.

In terms of snowfall, we anticipate that amounts will be around normal for the forecast area, with variations in different regions:

- **Piedmont Region:** We expect total snowfall to range between 15 to 20 inches. This area may see several snowy events, particularly in January and February.

- **North Central and Northern Virginia:** Snowfall is projected to be between 12 to 16 inches. This region could experience occasional winter storms that may contribute to higher totals during peak snow months.

- **Central Virginia:** Residents can anticipate snowfall totals of around 10 to 14 inches. While snow events may be less frequent, the area could still see significant accumulations following cold snaps.

- **Eastern Virginia:** Snowfall is expected to be lower, ranging from 3 to 9 inches, especially in coastal regions. The snow that does fall is likely to be more localized and may occur less frequently.

**December through March Outlook:**

- **Temperatures:** We forecast temperatures to remain near normal during the winter months. While there may be short periods of cold, particularly in January, overall temperatures should balance out over the season.

- **Precipitation:** Overall precipitation, including both rain and snow, is also expected to be near normal. This means that while notable winter storms may occur, they should not deviate significantly from typical seasonal patterns.

This forecast is subject to change as conditions evolve, and we will continue to monitor developments to provide the most accurate information for our region as the winter progresses. -John
